Study in Malta
Start Your European Education Journey in Malta
Malta is an attractive European study destination offering internationally recognised qualifications, English-medium study opportunities, a multicultural environment and access to a regulated European higher-education system.
Students can choose from universities and licensed higher-education institutions offering programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
The Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) regulates licensed education providers and accredited programmes. Malta’s higher-education qualifications are referenced through the Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF), which is aligned with the European Qualifications Framework.
At Ambassador Global Studies, we provide personalised support throughout your Malta study journey—from course and institution selection to application, admission, scholarships, tuition payment, Student D-Visa preparation, residence-permit guidance, financial documentation, accommodation and pre-departure support.
Why Study in Malta?
Quality-Assured European Education
Students can study with institutions and programmes regulated through Malta’s national higher-education quality-assurance framework.
MFHEA maintains an official register containing licensed education providers and accredited programmes.
Students should always confirm that their chosen institution and programme are properly licensed or accredited before making a final enrolment decision.
European Qualifications Framework
The Malta Qualifications Framework uses eight qualification levels and is aligned with the European Qualifications Framework, helping qualifications to be compared more clearly across Europe.

9. Offer / Enrolment Letter Assistance
After reviewing an application, the education provider may issue an enrolment, acceptance or admission letter.
We help students understand:
-
Academic conditions
-
English conditions
-
Tuition fees
-
Scholarships
-
Initial payments
-
Programme duration
-
MQF level
-
ECTS credits
-
Course commencement date
-

-
Next visa steps
The current Student National Visa checklist requires the school enrolment letter to clearly identify information including the institution, programme, MQF level, ECTS credits, duration, study mode and weekly course hours.
10. Tuition Fee & Payment Guidance
After receiving an offer, students may need to make the required tuition payment according to the institution’s instructions.
We provide guidance regarding:
-
Offer acceptance
-
Tuition fees
-
Initial deposits
-
Payment instructions
-
Payment deadlines
-

-

Proof of payment is among the documents required for Malta Student visa processing.
Payment requirements can vary significantly between education providers.
11. Malta Student D-Visa Guidance
For longer programmes, non-EU students generally need a Malta National D-Visa for study before travelling.
Identità currently states that non-EU students intending to study a programme of 105 days or more must apply for a Student D-Visa before travelling to Malta.
Our guidance may cover:
-
D-Visa application preparation
-
VFS appointment preparation
-
Passport documentation
-
Enrolment letter
-
Tuition-payment evidence
-
Academic documents
-
English-language documentation
-
Financial evidence
-
Sponsor documentation
-
Insurance
-
Accommodation
-
Flight itinerary
-
Supporting documents
Apply Early
The latest published Student National Visa checklist says an application should be submitted at least 9 weeks before the programme starts.
We therefore recommend preparing the visa file well in advance.
Important: All visa decisions are made solely by the Maltese authorities. Ambassador Global Studies cannot guarantee a visa outcome.
12. Malta Visa Guidance for Bangladeshi Students
Bangladeshi students planning long-term studies in Malta should prepare for the applicable Maltese entry and study-visa procedures before travelling.
For courses meeting the long-study threshold, students should obtain the appropriate Student National D-Visa before travelling.
Our team can help Bangladeshi students understand:
-
Visa documentation
-
VFS procedures
-
Enrolment requirements
-
Financial evidence
-
Tuition-payment documents
-
Sponsor documents
-
Insurance
-
Accommodation
-
Travel preparation
13. Proof of Funds Guidance
Financial documentation is an important component of the Malta Student visa application.
The current official checklist requires:
-
Bank statements covering the previous 3 months
-
A recent bank certificate
-
Evidence of adequate funds for the student’s stay
The required funds must currently amount to at least:
75% of Malta’s National Minimum Wage for each month of study.
If another person is sponsoring the student, additional documentation can include:
-
Sponsor’s bank statements
-
Signed sponsor declaration
-
Sponsor’s identification document
The Student visa checklist also requires a copy of the international bank card the student plans to use to access their funds in Malta.
Because the national minimum wage can change, we recommend calculating the required financial amount according to the rule applicable when the application is submitted rather than publishing one permanent euro figure.
14. Medical & Travel Insurance Guidance
Appropriate insurance is required as part of Malta’s Student visa process.
For students studying MQF Level 5 or above and eligible to apply for a study residence permit after arrival, the current D-Visa checklist requires medical and travel insurance that:
-
Is valid for the Schengen Area
-
Provides at least €30,000 medical coverage
-
Covers at least the first 91 consecutive days
-
Is valid for study purposes.
Requirements differ for students studying at MQF Level 4 or below.
We help students understand the appropriate insurance requirement for their programme.
15. Accommodation Documentation Guidance
Students need to provide evidence of prospective accommodation during the visa process.
The current Student National Visa checklist requires accommodation evidence for at least the student’s first 14 nights in Malta.
Acceptable arrangements can include:
-
Institution-provided accommodation
-
Registered rental accommodation
-
Accommodation with a host
-
Hotel
-
Short-term rental
The accommodation documentation must follow the applicable Identità requirements.
16. Malta Study Residence Permit Guidance
Students undertaking higher-education programmes may also need a Maltese residence permit after arrival.
Identità currently states that students studying at MQF Level 5 or above should apply for a Maltese residence card after arriving in Malta.
Our support can include guidance on:
-
Residence-permit procedures
-
Passport documentation
-
Student enrolment
-
Tuition-payment evidence
-
Financial documentation
-
Accommodation
-
Health insurance
-
Academic progress
-
Supporting documents
The exact requirements depend on the student’s programme and circumstances.
17. Student Residence Permit Renewal Guidance
Students continuing programmes beyond their current authorised stay may need to renew their residence permission.
Renewal can involve demonstrating continued:
-
Student status
-
Academic progress
-
Financial stability
-
Health insurance
-
Accommodation
-
Compliance with study requirements.
Students should maintain satisfactory attendance and academic progress throughout their studies.
18. Visa & Credibility Preparation
Where further assessment is required, Ambassador Global Studies can help students prepare to explain their genuine study plans.
Preparation may include:
-
Why Malta?
-
Why this institution?
-
Why this programme?
-
Previous academic background
-
Study gap
-
Programme content
-
MQF level
-
Tuition fees
-
Financial arrangements
-
Sponsor information
-
Accommodation plans
-
Career objectives
-
Future plans
Students should always answer truthfully and consistently.
19. Working While Studying in Malta
Eligible international students may have limited opportunities to work while studying.
A Student visa alone does not mean unrestricted employment rights.
Students generally require an Employment Licence / work authorisation through Jobsplus before taking up employment.
Maximum Working Hours
Eligible students may work:
Up to 20 hours per week.
Higher-Education Students
Third-country nationals undertaking a full-time higher-education programme recognised by MQRIC may be allowed to work up to 20 hours per week starting from their first year of study, subject to receiving the necessary work permit.
Other Eligible Students
Certain students undertaking courses exceeding 90 days may only begin working after the first three months of study, subject to applicable Jobsplus conditions and work authorisation.
Students should therefore check the rules applying specifically to their programme and residence status before accepting employment.
20. Internship & Practical Learning Opportunities
Depending on the programme, students may have opportunities involving:
-
Internships
-
Industry placements
-
Practical projects
-
Work-based learning
-
Professional training
Availability depends on the education provider and programme.
Students should confirm whether an internship is:
-
Compulsory or optional
-
Included in the curriculum
-
Paid or unpaid
-
Subject to additional employment authorisation
Ambassador Global Studies helps students review available placement information when comparing courses.
21. Post-Study Opportunity in Malta
Malta currently provides an important option for certain non-EU graduates.
Eligible students who successfully complete a course in Malta at:
MQF Level 5 or above
may be able to apply for a post-study residence permit for up to 9 months to:
-
Search for employment, or
-
Explore starting a business related to their field of study.
To qualify, the student must have successfully completed their Maltese programme and hold a valid study residence permit at the relevant time.
Important
The 9-month post-study permit is not itself a full-time work permit.
If the graduate finds employment, the prospective employer will normally need to complete the appropriate work/residence authorisation process before the graduate begins working under the new employment status.
The post-study permit is generally a one-time opportunity and should be applied for while the student’s study residence permit is still valid.
22. Transition from Study to Employment
Students cannot simply convert their study status into unrestricted full-time employment while continuing their programme.
Identità states that a student holding a Student D-Visa should first complete their studies before switching to full-time employment status.
Following successful completion, an eligible graduate may:

Students may consider:
-
